Tata group is a multinational conglomerate head quartered in Mumbai, India. Founded by Jamsetji Tata in 1868, became internationally recognized after acquiring several global companies. One of India’s largest conglomerates, the Tata Group is owned by Tata Sons. The Group operates in more than 100 countries on six continents.
It is one of the largest industrial groups in the country, established in 1868, 153 years ago. Each Tata company operates independently under the direction and supervision of the board of directors and shareholders. 1868–1904 :- Jamsetji Tata Founder of Tata Group
Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata (March 3rd, 1839 – May 19th, 1904) India’s largest conglomerate Tata Group, He was a pioneering Indian business-man who founded Tata Group.
Tata is considered the legendary “Father of Indian Industry”. He was so influential in the world of industry that J Nehru called Tata a One-Man Planning Commission.
1904–1938 :- Dorab Ji Tata
In 1904, after the death of Jamsetji’s, the eldest son, Dorab ji, became chairman. Dorab is credited with the establishment Tata Steel, a conglomerate in 1907, and Tata Power in 1911, the core of the present Tata Group.
1938–1991 :- JRD Tata
JRD Tata became Chairman of the Tata Group in 1938. Born to the Tata family in India, he was the son of the prominent businessman Ratanji Dadabhoy and his wife Suzanne Brière. His mother was the first woman to drive a car in India and in 1929 she became the first licensed pilot in India.
Tata Group has grown from $ 101 million to over $ 5 billion. Starting with 14 companies, upon his resignation after half a century of 1988, Tatter sons grew into a complex of 95 companies. He is also known as one of the founders of several Tata Group businesses, including TCS, Tata Motors, Titan Industries, Voltas and Air India.
1991 – 2012 :- Ratan Tata
Ratan Naval Tata (born Dec 28th 1937) is a former Indian businessman, charity and he was chairman of Tata Sands. In 1991, Ratan Tata became chairman of the Tata Group. He also served as chairman of the Tata Group from 1990 to 2012 and has again to lead the Charitable Trust as an interim chairman from October 2016 to February 2017.
2012–2016 :- Cyrus Mistry
Cyrus Pallonji Mistry (born July 4, 1968) is an Indian-born Irish businessman. He was Chairman of Tata Group, an Indian business conglomerate from 2012 to 2016. He was the sixth chairman of the group and was the second person (after Nowroji Saklatwala) to bear the surname Tata.
2017 till date :- Natarajan Chandrasekaran
N Chandrasekaran (born June 2nd, 1963) is an Indian businessman and managing director of Tata Sons. He served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Tata Consultancy Services, and in 2009 became CEO. He was also Chairman of Tata Motors & Tata Global Beverages. He became the first non-Parsi person and senior vice president to head the Tata Group.
